What is STEM?


STEM learning refers to an educational approach that integrates concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a cohesive manner.

Imagine your children working on a problem: Say to build a robot that can sort objects - based on density on the object ? In order to build the right robot the group of students will have to understand concepts of physics torque, power transmission, angular velocity. Then while coding the robot they will also have to develop multiple sorting algorithms and see the benefits of one logic over other, perhaps one logic might be more 'energy efficient', but another is more 'time efficient' or 'accuracy efficient' - different requirements, calls for different algorithms. The project is a good example of an integrated STEM problem, as it will organically build the knowledge across multiple STEM fields. In groups, such a project also enables healthy debates, brainstorming, and appreciation for collaboration.

In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it is more important than ever that our nation's youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make smarter decisions.

                  Engineering is a sub stream of science and also the building block of robotics. Robotics is already responsible for sending out shipments, milking cows, creating most products, sorting emails, performing advanced surgeries. A robotics engineer would study to build robots for a variety of such use cases.
